How Playwork Practice Supports Loose Parts as a resource

Loose parts can be amazing resources in play. However, over the last decade, largely ironically due to their growing popularity, we have seen an increase in superficial and agenda driven provision of loose parts. In many cases, these agendas remove the all-important “loose” aspect of this resource. This session will critique and be constructively critical of contemporary loose parts provision and offer, from a Playwork perspective, optimal ways to introduce and support loose parts in your setting. To ensure this does not just paint “another opinion” on loose parts, these recommendations will align and be closely linked with the foundation theory of loose parts as a resource in play for children.
