The Outsiders Leadership Coaching & Mentoring – Supporting the Next Generation of OSHC Leaders
For more than 15 years, the leadership team at The Outsiders OSHC has worked side-by-side, building a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and professional growth within the Australian OSHC sector.
Through this long-standing collegial partnership, the team has achieved Exceeding ratings, received industry recognition and awards, and—perhaps most importantly—mentored and supported dozens of OSHC professionals as they developed their own leadership journeys. From the very beginning, The Outsiders has been known as a place where people are welcomed through the door to learn, observe, ask questions, and be inspired. This openness has helped cultivate a strong professional community and contributed to a track record that speaks for itself: long-term staff retention and a steady stream of educators who go on to build lifelong careers in OSHC.
Now, The Outsiders team is offering that same depth of experience through Leadership Coaching and Mentoring for OSHC services across Australia. While many people know The Outsiders for its work with playwork approaches, loose parts play, and rich play environments, this coaching goes far beyond play philosophy.
The team brings practical, real-world experience across the full scope of OSHC leadership and service management, including:
Documentation and reflective practice
Quality Improvement Plans (QIP)
Human resources and staff development
Crisis management and decision-making Daily routines and transitions
Risk Management, Risk Benefit & Dynamic Risk Benefit Assessment training
Medical procedures and communication with families
Risk management and risk–benefit approaches
Community and parent engagement
Assessment and Rating preparation
Leadership culture and team cohesion
And much more.
Sometimes what a service needs most is an experienced, objective third party—someone who understands the sector deeply, can ask the right questions, and help leaders see new possibilities. Whether you're a coordinator stepping into leadership for the first time, an experienced director wanting to strengthen your team culture, or a service preparing for Assessment and Rating, The Outsiders can tailor a coaching and mentoring package to suit your needs. Whatever the challenge—or opportunity—if it sits within the scope of OSHC, The Outsiders team is ready to help you grow.

Each online learning module unpacks some theory, critical reflection and practical application. It is a deeply personal undertaking as opposed to a whole team activity but as such a better developmental experience. Due to this we hope the value to the participant in both knowledge and practice will be significant.
Each participant will have a qualified playworker as a tutor to answer any questions and extend upon their answers and input. Each playworker has extensive experience working on the front line of play so all info comes from practical first hand experience and best practice.
